Digimon

Tai and Agumon

He is characterized as an adventurous character that wears a set of goggles, a characteristic that is shared among the leaders of the various DigiDestined in Digimon. He is the older brother to Kari Kamiya.

As a leader, he often acts first without realizing the consequences of his actions. This has led him to moments of friction and guilt between his friend/rival Matt Ishida, his oldest friend Sora Takenouchi, as well as his Digimon partner Agumon. However, he manages to do whatever is necessary to rectify the situation, and in times of need, save friends and family from certain doom. He is the bearer of the Crest of Courage. His representative color is Orange and his elemental affinity is fire.

The adventurous leader of the group, Tai was always the first to jump into action, though it often threw him into the path of danger. Agumon was the first Digimon to digivolve into Champion form (Greymon). However, his ambition to get Agumon to digivolve into Ultimate form soon gets him into trouble. He first overstuffed Agumon with food. During their next battle, Tai deliberately walks into danger, knowing that Greymon would digivolve since he is in trouble. However, Greymon instead digivolves into SkullGreymon, his virus counterpart, and causes disaster, rampaging around and taking out Garurumon, Birdramon and Kabuterimon before regressing into an exhausted Koromon. As a result, both of them lose their confidence until Piximon arrives and helps them out. They realize that they need to stay strong and always come back after suffering defeat.

In the final battle with Etemon, Tai sees his crest of courage glowing and once again walks towards danger. Greymon is right behind him. This time, Greymon succeeds, digivolving into MetalGreymon and destroying Etemon. However, Etemon's destruction results in the formation of a dimensional warp. Tai and MetalGreymon enter the warp, which causes them to go back to the Real World and enables Tai to go home. Tai is having a blast, sitting back and relaxing, but when the news comes on he recognizes several Digimon in the Real World. He receives a message from Izzy, who warns him not to come back to the Digital World, but Tai knows that he must get back to fix the balance. When Tai sees Ogremon, Koromon digivolves into Agumon and a dimensional warp opens. Agumon and Tai get sucked through and once again reenter the Digital World.

Upon his re-entry, Tai finds it in severe disarray. Time moves much quicker, and months have passed in the Digital World. The entire team has broken up, mainly to look for him, and are moving their separate ways. Tai first locates T.K. and later connects with Matt and Joe in a diner. Piece by piece, he gathers the group up together.

By now, Myotismon has emerged as the next great threat, and he is in search of the eighth DigiDestined child. The DigiDestined pursue him to the Real World. Wizardmon finds the crest and the digivice and unites Kari and Gatomon. Gatomon digivolves into Angewomon and defeats Myotismon, but he comes back as VenomMyotismon. The digidestined believe that the key to defeating VenomMyotismon is to have Angemon and Angewomon shoot Tai and Matt with arrows of hope and light. Both of them agree, and Gabumon and Agumon digivolve into MetalGarurumon and WarGreymon, both of whom defeat VenomMyotismon. The DigiDestined are shocked to see the Digital World appear in the sky. All eight of them open another warp and go back to the Digital World to restore the balance.

The Dark Masters emerge as the major enemy, and it is revealed that they were the ones who warped and rebuilt the Digital World. During this portion, Matt and Tai develop serious rifts in their friendship, which culminates into a major battle involving their Mega level Digimon. Matt leaves the group for a short while to reevaluate his place in it. After defeating three of the four Dark Masters, Tai gets everybody together as one group to battle Piedmon, the last of the four. Showing true foresight, he refuses to allow any of the others digivolve in the battle against LadyDevimon, Piedmon's bodyguard, because he wants to save their strength for the ultimate battle. He also sends Sora and T.K. to round up Mimi, Joe, and Matt, all of whom left the group to find themselves. In the end, they triumph over Piedmon, but it takes the digivolution of Angemon into MagnaAngemon to do it. He leads the group against Apocalymon and once he is defeated Tai and the others have to say goodbye to their Digimon friends.

  Tai in Digimon Adventure 02

In this series, he has entered high school. Tai has grown emotionally by this time. He is much calmer and less likely to act without thinking.

Tai plays a major role in the first episode ("Enter Flamedramon"). When he senses that Agumon is in trouble, he mysteriously enters the Digital World and tries to help him out. Along with Patamon and Gatomon, he finds a cave that has a Digi-Egg with the Crest of Courage on it. He tries to lift it up (and fails), which causes three points of light to rise and fly off. They are the three Digivices that Davis, Cody, and Yolei receive. After the battle with Monochromon, Tai also gives Davis his goggles, since Davis broke his square goggles in the battle.

Tai (along with the other older DigiDestined) act as mentors throughout most of season 2, but they're not above giving a helping hand to their younger generation throughout the series. When Blackwargreymon is created from 100 control spires, Tai and Wargreymon get into one final fight. Although the battle ended in a tie, Blackwargreymon addmitted defeat and left with some parting wisdom from Agumon.

In the year 2027, Tai has become a United Nations diplomat for the Digital World. He has a son, whose partner is a Koromon; Tai's spouse is not revealed.

Botamon (ボタモン)
Botamon (ボタモン)

Botomon is Agumon's Fresh form, an infant Digimon. His name comes from the Japanese word "bota", which refers to rocks dug up during coal mining.

Botamon is a small (about one foot tall) Digimon with black hair covering his body, yellow eyes, and two small bumps on the top of his head (resembling ears). His mouth is covered by his hair and is not visible unless it is opened.

He appears once in Digimon Adventure during a flashback where he is seen hatching from Agumon's Digi-Egg.[4] (These Digi-Eggs are the eggs that all Digimon hatch from - a different type of Digi-Egg can be used to trigger Armor Digivolution.)

Attacks

  • Bubble Blow (Acid Bubbles): Fires harmless pink bubbles from his mouth.
   Koromon

Koromon (コロモン)
Koromon (コロモン)

Koromon is Agumon's In-Training form. The name "Koromon" derives from the Japanese word "korokoro", meaning "something small, round, and rolling". He is a pink, ball-shaped Digimon with floppy ears, bright-red eyes and sharp teeth. He is approximately a foot tall.

Agumon was in this form when he first met his partner, Tai Kamiya. After his initial Digivolution to Agumon to help battle a wild Kuwagamon, the Rookie level became his preferred form.[5] From then on, Agumon temporarily reverted to Koromon only when he ran out of energy in a higher level and could not sustain his Rookie form.

Attacks

  • Bubble Blow (Acid Bubbles): Fires harmless pink bubbles from his mouth.

Agumon and Tai are the main Digimon/DigiDestined team in Digimon Adventure, the first Digimon anime series. Agumon's personality is extremely brave, relaxed, and funny. Being partnered to the leader of the eight DigiDestined featured in Adventure, Agumon is a decisive factor in many battles. He is always the first of the partner Digimon to Digivolve into a stronger form. Agumon is also one of only two partner Digimon to Digivolve to the Mega level, the highest and strongest form a Digimon can obtain. (Yamato "Matt" Ishida's partner Gabumon is the other Digimon to reach Mega.)[1]

Agumon plays a major role in the Digimon Adventure movie Our War Game!. (This film was combined with Digimon Adventure (Movie) and Digimon Hurricane Touchdown/Supreme Evolution! The Golden Digimentals to make the English language Digimon: The Movie.) In it, Agumon and Tai teams up with Matt, Gabumon, Tentomon (partner of Izzy Izumi), and Patamon (partner of T. K. Takaishi) to enter the Internet to battle Infermon, an evil Digimon who had taken residence there. (Digimon are made of data and can enter electronic communication networks at will; DigiDestined are temporarily converted to data for this purpose.) Eventually, Infermon was defeated when WarGreymon (Agumon's Mega form) DNA Digivolved with MetalGarurumon (Gabumon's Mega) to form Omnimon.

In Digimon Adventure 02 new DigiDestined were chosen to defend the Digital World. Agumon was no longer a main character, although he made intermittent appearances throughout the series. His most notable contribution was to begin the chain of events that led to Veemon (the new main Digimon) obtaining Raidramon, one of his Armor Digivolved forms. Agumon was temporarily held captive by the Digimon Emperor,[2] the evil persona of the DigiDestined actually named Ken Ichijouji. He was forced to Dark Digivolve to SkullGreymon and a possessed MetalGreymon.[3] Veemon and his partner Davis Motomiya unlocked Veemon's Raidramon form during the battle to free Agumon.

Attacks

  • Pepper Breath/Pepper Flame (Baby Flame): Shoots an orange and red fireball of varying strength from his mouth.

Greymon

Greymon (グレイモン)
Greymon (グレイモン)

Greymon is Agumon's Champion form. He is closely modeled after the classic flat-footed, upright depiction of a theropod dinosaur. He has well-muscled abdominals and forearms, orange skin with blue stripes, and a brown helmet that encases his head that has an antler-like horn on each side and a single horn on the nose, - he resembles a fusion between an Allosaurus and a Ceratosaurus. Greymon is approximately 15 to 20 feet tall. The name "Greymon" comes from a misspelling of the English word "great".

Agumon first Digivolved to Greymon to battle a wild Shellmon in Digimon Adventure.[6] Thereafter, Greymon appears many times in the series to help fight against various enemies; examples include Devimon, Etemon and Myotismon.

In Digimon Adventure 02 he was once taken control of by the Digimon Emperor with a Dark Ring, a black metal ring the Emperor developed to subjugate various Digimon. In an unsuccessful attempt to get him to Digivolve to MetalGreymon, the Emperor made him Dark Digivolve to SkullGreymon.[7]

Attacks

  • Nova Blast/Nova Flame (Mega Flame): Fires a giant blast of fire from his mouth.

SkullGreymon

SkullGreymon (スカルグレイモン)
SkullGreymon (スカルグレイモン)

SkullGreymon is an alternate Ultimate form of Greymon. The "skull" prefix in his name refers to his body, which is fleshless and entirely composed of bone. A missile lies on his back that is shaped like a shark. SkullGreymon is a destructive and uncontrollable Digimon that results when Greymon is induced to Digivolve incorrectly.

In Digimon Adventure, Tai desperately wanted Greymon to Digivolve further when he gained his Crest of Courage, an object that would help Greymon obtain his next level. When the evil Etemon confined Tai and the other DigiDestined children in a colosseum he forced Tai's Greymon to battle a wild Greymon. Tai purposefully threw himself in front of the evil Greymon to make his partner Digivolve. (The partner Digimon gained new levels primarily when their DigiDestined were put into mortal danger.) This caused Greymon to Dark Digivolve into SkullGreymon,[8] who easily defeated the enemy Greymon. However, he attacked Birdramon (Biyomon's Champion form and the partner of Sora Takenouchi), Garurumon (Gabumon's Champion) and Kabuterimon (Tentomon's Champion) and fled the colosseum. Exhausted, he reverted to Koromon.

This experience shows how the mental state of a DigiDestined can affect the way his/her partner will Digivolve. Each of the DigiDestined in Adventure were bestowed personality traits (in Tai's case, Courage) that they had to display to unlock their Digimon's Ultimate levels. Counter to his trait, Tai had been exhibiting feelings of fear and helplessness during Greymon's battle, which caused Greymon to Digivolve into the wrong Ultimate.

SkullGreymon makes another appearance in Digimon Adventure 02. When the Digimon Emperor took control of Greymon with a Dark Ring, he tried to force him to Digivolve into MetalGreymon. The result was the corrupt Digivolution that had Greymon Digivolve to SkullGreymon for a second time. The Emperor attempted to trigger the correct Digivolution several times until he managed to get Greymon to become an evil version of MetalGreymon.

Attacks

  • Dark Shot (Ground Zero): Fires the fish missile on his back.

MetalGreymon

MetalGreymon (メタルグレイモン)
MetalGreymon (メタルグレイモン)

MetalGreymon is Agumon's true Ultimate form. Physically, he resembles a larger Greymon with metallic head armor, red hair, metal wings, a trident-like left arm, and twin missile launchers on his chest. He is about 20-30 feet tall. "Metal" is added to his name due to the cyborg-like portions of his body.

Greymon first Digivolved to MetalGreymon to battle Etemon. Just prior to the Digivolution, Tai had displayed a sufficient amount of courage when he saved Sora from a Datamon that was holding her and Biyomon captive. Tai's Crest of Courage activated and Greymon Digivolved to MetalGreymon, who was sucked into a dimensional warp with Tai that sent them to the Real World (what Digimon call planet Earth) and destroyed Etemon. After he (as Agumon) and Tai returned to the Digital World, he made several more appearances to battle various enemies, including ShogunGekomon and Devidramon. The two battles he lost were against Myotismon and the Dark Masters Digimon gang.

MetalGreymon under the control of the Digimon Emperor
MetalGreymon under the control of the Digimon Emperor

In Digimon Adventure 02, Agumon digivolved into the evil, blue-skinned, virus version of MetalGreymon under the control of the Digimon Emperor. He was used to attack the new DigiDestined, as well as Tai and Matt Ishida. During this battle Davis Motomiya, the new DigiDestined's leader, obtained his Digi-Egg of Friendship. This allowed his partner, Veemon, to Armor Digivolve to Raidramon to break MetalGreymon's Dark Spiral, the device that was compelling MetalGreymon to obey the Emperor's orders. Free from the Spiral's influence, he reverted to Agumon.

He returned again during the World Tour, where, alongside MagnaAngemon, he defeated the Mamemon brothers. His final appearance was against Skullsatamon. However, he was drained of energy after the prolonged absence from the digital world and reverted to Agumon mid battle.

Attacks

  • Giga Blaster (Giga Destroyer): Fires two fish-shaped missiles from his chest, similar to MetalGarurumon's Giga Missile.
  • Mega Claw (Trident Arm): Shoots his metal claw off his arm, slashing or wrapping up enemies.

WarGreymon

WarGreymon (ウォーグレイモン)
WarGreymon (ウォーグレイモン)

WarGreymon is Agumon's Mega form, possessing the "war" prefix due to his offensive capabilities. He is a humanoid version of Greymon with metal armor encasing his head, shoulders, abdominals and legs. He is capable of independent flight - the wing-like projections on his back form his Brave Shield that he removes and uses to block attacks. WarGreymon has two large clawed gauntlets called Dramon Killers permanently attached to each arm. However, they have been known to crack occasionally during an intense fight, and on one instance they even broke completely off.He is an extremely powerful Mega digimon that has a range of attacks.

WarGreymon made his initial appearance (along with MetalGarurumon) in Adventure during the battle with VenomMyotismon, who had infiltrated the Real World and intended to take it over along with the Digital World. Tai and Matt (partner to Gabumon, MetalGarurumon's primary form) allowed themselves to be struck by arrows from Angewomon (the Ultimate form of Gatomon, Kari Kamiya's partner) and Angemon (Patamon's Champion) in accordance with an ancient prophecy. Tai and Matt remained unharmed; the shot arrows gave Agumon and Gabumon the necessary energy to Warp Digivolve to Mega and destroy VenomMyotismon.[9]

When the Dark Masters Digimon attempted to take over the Digital World WarGreymon fought and destroyed the first and third members that attacked the DigiDestined, MetalSeadramon and MachineDramon. War Greymon was one of the Digidestined's primary fighters and often looked to as the one of the leaders of the group, often leading the digiteam in attack formation.

In Digimon Adventure 02 WarGreymon appeared twice in the series, the first time was to battle the series' anti-hero Digimon BlackWarGreymon. When Imperialdramon Fighter Mode intervened, BlackWarGreymon was defeated by both WarGreymon and Imperialdramon.[10]

In his second appearance in the following episode, he was there when BlackWarGreymon was mortally wounded and held him up while trying to get him to save his strength. War Greymon alongside with Metal Garurumon are seen as the benchmark Mega Level digimon by which all other Mega Digimon are judged by.

Attacks

  • Terra Force (Gaia Force): Gathers energy in his hands to form a large energy ball which he fires at his opponent. This is his signature attack. In the English dub this attack is randomly called "Nova Force".
  • Mega Claw (Dramon Killer): Slashes dramon digimon with his Dramon Destroyers.
  • Great Tornado: Spins at the speed of a tornado and rips through the enemy. In the English dub this attack is sometimes randomly called "Terra Force" or "Mega Claw".

Omnimon
Omnimon (オメガモン Omegamon)
Omnimon (オメガモン Omegamon)

Omnimon is the Digimon that results when WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon DNA Digivolve together to create a stronger Digimon. His body is entirely covered in white armor adorned with black, blue and yellow markings. His left arm ends in WarGreymon's head and his right arm with MetalGarurumon's, giving him two primary attacks (Transcendent Sword and Supreme Cannon). The cape he wears flows over the width of his body.

The name "Omnimon" is derived from "omni", an English prefix meaning "all". His Japanese name, "Omegamon", derives from the "omega", the last letter of the Greek alphabet. Also, because of his relationship with Alphamon, he and Alphamon are supposed to represent Alpha and Omega.

His first appearance is in the second Digimon Adventure film, Our War Game!. WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon had tried unsuccessfully to defeat Diaboromon, a Digimon they followed into the Internet to prevent him from consuming all its data. When Tai and Matt were accidentally transported inside the Internet they gave their spiritual energy to their Digimon so that they could win - Omnimon formed and defeated Diaboromon.

In the second Digimon Adventure 02 movie, Revenge of Diaboromon, Omnimon reformed when the DigiDestined discovered that Diaboromon survived the first battle and returned to the Internet. Omnimon destroyed what he thought was Diaboromon but found that the battle had been a trap - he had been fighting a decoy that exploded to reveal the innumerable Kuramon that were sealed inside. After wreaking havoc in the Real World all of them fused to form Armageddemon, who Omnimon fought, but when he used his surpreme cannon to blow a hole in his forehead, he just shot out laser whips from the hole that defeated Omnimon. He gave his energy to Imperialdramon Fighter Mode (a more powerful version of Imperialdramon, the Mega Digimon formed when Veemon and Ken Ichijouji's partner Wormmon DNA Digivolve), who permanently destroyed Armageddemon when he Mode Changed into Imperialdramon Paladin Mode.

This version of Omnimon seems to be the most powerful of the four Omnimon to appear (Our War Game, Battle Of Adventurers, X-Evolution, Savers)

Attacks

  • Transcendent Sword (Grey Sword): Slashes with the Grey Sword. It is durable enough to endure more than 200 Catastrophe Cannon from the Diaboromon copies. The Sword may also emmit flame from its edges.
  • Supreme Cannon (Garuru Cannon): Fires colossal energy balls at foes. If fully charged with datas of human positive emotions, it can take out armies of Ultimate(Mega) level Digimon. The Cannon may also be fired as ice energy, in e.ball form or beam form.
  • All Delete (only X-Evolution version and so on): The most powerful "anninihilation" attack in Digimon history; its name derives from the Digimon kana engraved upon the Grey Sword, which starts to emit lights of destruction upon the attack's activation. He uses this attack at the end of Digital Monster X-Evolution, which reset Yggdrasil and the Digital World itself.
